Fashion Watch 2011: Alex Bitong

Fashion Watch 2011: Alex Bitong Trendy and timeless pieces—and a whole other lot in between.

For the most part, Alex Bitong struck a balance between trends and timelessness in his Fashion Watch Holiday 2011 collection. The color-saturated lineup featured classic sheaths that would look good at any given time, as well as contemporary dresses that sing of the hottest fashion trends.

Classic cases in point: This bright blue silk sheath with a dangerously low and sexy scoop back. This gorgeous piece evokes the Oriental mystique of the cheongsam from the front, but look at it from behind and all that meek mystery vanishes in an instant.

This citrine column bares less skin, but it's neither less timeless nor covetable. The wide pleats at the left side give it a structural punctuation, but beware—its lengthy silhouette serves to emphasize those who already have the long and lean figure. Don't try this at home if you're vertically challenged, lest you unwittingly look like a señoritaand not of the good kind. Same goes for this tangerine version.

A safer bet is this bubblegum pink dress with asymmetrical sleeves, or better yet, this mustard sheath with an abbreviated cape. The pieces' lively colors more than make up for the pieces' relatively simple silhouettes.

As for the trendier pieces, Alex channeled the boho vibe of the '70s with this fringe-sleeved number, and the lengthy, leggy persuasions we've been seeing a lot of. Alex gives that to us via floor-grazing gowns in bright tones: a sky blue chiffon column, and an orange finale gown speckled with pink glass beads.

Obviously, there are other pieces in this collection that run the gamut between trendy and timeless. Click on the photo gallery to see the entire lineup, and don't forget to check out the other treats below:
