At age 81, actress, author, producer, comedian, and more popularly known as a host, Joan Rivers, has passed away this morning, Manila time. On August 28, while undergoing a minor surgery, Rivers was reported to have suffered from cardiac and respiratory arrest. She was immediately rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital where she arrived unconscious. After five days, her daughter Melissa Rivers announced that her mother has been released from the ICU and has been put on life support. She died peacefully today surrounded by her family.
For fans of the popular celebrity buzz, Fashion Police, the show will never be the same without her because, well, she is THE fashion police. The show, which has been airing since 2010, as well as the award shows that Joan has been part of, and the industry in general, just lost one funny lady who will always be remembered as the one who calls it how she sees it, no-holds-barred. At a time when no female wanted, or even dreamt of becoming a comedian, Joan Rivers readily claimed her spot in the business. “My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh.” says Melissa Rivers. Overflowing with wit and humor that knows no borders, many may follow her, but there will always be just one Joan Rivers.
