1. Gucci launches a scholarship program as part of its diversity initiatives.

Following the blackface sweater scandal, Gucci, together with one of its ambassadors, Dapper Dan, promised to uphold a series of diversity plans. The brand recently launched the Gucci Changemakers community fund and scholarship program in addition to the volunteering program they started in February.

The Gucci Changemakers program consists of $5 million funding that will be invested in non-profits that benefit communities of color in North America. It also has a council made up of cultural figures and changemakers like Dan Dapper himself, Bethann Hardison, Cleo Wade, and Michaela Angela Davis who will “ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term impact.” Additionally, there will be a scholarship program, which will award $20,000 to a qualifying fashion-inclined student. The initiative will also launch a volunteer program, which will allow their 18,000 global employees to take up to four paid days off to volunteer in the said programs.

2. Prada's market value plunges.

Bloomberg has reported that Prada suffered a major drop in its stock or market value due to the slowing of the Chinese market. This loss is accounted to $864 million in value, after its operating profit declined 10%, "the biggest one-day drop since September 2017. The stock has lost 38 percent over the past year."

3. Streetwear brand Kith forays into beauty with Estee Lauder.

After its successful Kith x Versace collab, the New-York based streetwear label has now started to delve into the beauty department. Kith partnered up with Estee Lauder and produced a five-piece beauty collection, which includes Estée's Perfectly Clean Multi-Action Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask, Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, Micro Essence Aquaceutical Mist, Lip Conditioner, and Revitalizing Supreme+ Global Anti-Aging Cell Power Creme. The products are housed in a transparent lucite train case with gold hardware featuring the Kith logo. Kith also used Estée Lauder's vintage logo, which dates back to 1946, to brand their collab.

4. New York is expected to become fur-free by 2021.

New York is close to eliminating fur products on its runway as Assembly woman Linda Rosenthal, an animal rights activist, introduces the anti-fur legislation, "which would phase in a state fur-sale ban by 2021," NY Post writes.

5. Hermès is getting into the beauty business.

Hermès unveils its plans on dominating the beauty world with its chief executive Axel Dumas sharing that the brand is aiming to ace the beauty trifecta: skincare, makeup, and fragrance. Hermès has long been producing fragrances, so their main focus now is to develop their skincare and cosmetic lines which will bear plastic-free packaging. These are now being developed in-house but will be manufactured by third-party suppliers, mainly in France and Italy.
