“The second I heard it,” Anna Wintour said to the New York Times, when asked when she knew she’d forgo London in favor of Los Angeles to see the Tom Ford show. Prior, Tom Ford himself made the same quick decision upon learning his runway show schedule at London Fashion Week falls the day after the Academy Awards.
"I wasn't going to try to compete with the Oscars," Ford told Reuters. Instead, he picked out Friday—two days before Hollywood's big night—to showcase his Fall/Winter 2015 collection for the first time in Los Angeles with none other than the biggest stars perched on the front row.
“There wasn’t one person I didn’t know,” said W editor, Stefano Tonchi as reported by the New York Times. The star-studded front row included Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Beyoncé, Jay Z, Miley Cyrus, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Richie, Julianne Moore and Jennifer Lopez.
And apparently, Anna Wintour wasn't the only one from fashion's elite who swapped London for LA. Rodger Berman (Rachel Zoe's husband), Derek Blasberg, John Demsey (group president of Estée Lauder Companies), Leonard Lauder himself, Joanna Coles (Cosmopolitan editor) and Eva Chen (Lucky editor) all ditched their turncoats for sunny LA.
Perhaps, the sunshine was too tempting. But with so many other remarkable affairs taking place that weekend, it was just like fashion week in the heart of Hollywood.
