Fashion Connection

Big plans for SoFA and Istituto Marangoni.
Fashion Connection Big plans for SoFA and Istituto Marangoni.

If you've been keeping tabs on our Style Reports, you'd know that The School of Fashion & the Arts (SoFA) recently hosted a talk given by Alan Brivio. He's the International Relations Area Manager from Istituto Marangoni, one of Europe's leading fashion institutions. The school, which has campuses in London, Milan and Paris counts Alessandra Facchinetti, who has worked with Gucci, Moncler, and Valentino; Moschino's Franco Moschino; and Dolce & Gabbana's Domenico Dolce as alumni. Locally, SoFA's Amina Aranaz-Alunan and Loralee Baron-Soong , designer Rosanna Ocampo and Marie Claire's Pam Quinones can claim the same. Style Bible sat down for a chat with Amina to find out just what was brewing between the 2 schools.

Amina says the partnership, which is actually an affiliation more than anything else, came into fruition primarily because of the belief that the two schools share the same vision: that fashion is as much a business as a creative outlet. Amina revealed that SoFA's main goal was to make SoFa the premier hub of the Istituo Marangoni community in Manila. SoFA will soon be arranging gatherings wherein Marangoni hopefuls and alumnae can meet, mingle, and exchange ideas, in the process demystifying the concept of studying on European ground.

Amina admits that although things are pretty much up in the air now, since this is partnership is brand new, big things can be expected once the dust settles. Marangoni scholarships for deserving SoFA students, delegations sent to Marangoni, Marangoni lecturers invited to give talks at SoFA–all these and more will be coming soon.
