Fancy Pants Trendspotting: Jodhpurs, harem pants, dhotis, and drop-crotch pants.

Just last week, glossy legwear was in the spotlight, sexily pouring over legs like liquid. But there should be plenty of room in every fashionista's closet for something on the other end of the spectrum. Enter the new pant silhouette—voluminous, slouchy, and definitely on-trend.

This new trouser shape has been heating up the runways for the past couple of years, most recently at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Ralph Lauren, and Yves Saint Laurent. And from what Style Bible's spies have been seeing all over town, local fashion watchers have already started embracing this fabulously tricky trend.

As the cut and fit varies slightly with each style, these fancy pants go by a lot of names. Harem pants - think of hot belly dancers or Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin - are loose all over and cinched at the waist and cuffs. The increasingly popular, and slightly more daring drop-crotch pants are a bolder take on this style. Meanwhile, Indian-inspired dhotis loosely gather the fabric between the legs, creating a more voluminous shape with draping. Jodhpurs are baggier on the hips, but they tighten like riding breeches that cling to the lower leg area. Nicolas Ghesquière was one of the firsts to resurrect this style with his multi-cultural collection for Balenciaga in Fall 2007.

If you've done your fashion homework, you can quit worrying about the negative MC Hammer tag. Standing out in this season's most fashionable pantaloons can be a breeze if you wear them with the right pieces—high heels and a fitted top should balance out your silhouette nicely. Take inspiration from Manila's most fashion-forward ladies and find the right pair of pants for your fancy self.
