Luck was definitely not on Sarah Tirona's side when she decided to buy herself a pair of Gucci Peyton Loafers. Local boutiques didn't have them in stock, and when she flew to Hong Kong for them, she couldn't find them in her size. So as a last resort to fulfill her shoe-obsessed dreams, she took to eBay and searched for a gently used pair.

Good news: she found one, managed to purchase it immediately, and received them in good shape. Bad news: they were fake.

Thing is, the whole transaction was very well-crafted by the scammer. The shoes were labeled as a gently used, authentic pair, and the eBay seller she bought from had good ratings on the site. The seller even claimed to hail from Australia to appear extra authentic, but Sarah revealed that her box was shipped from China. That said, even an experienced online shopper could've been fooled if they wanted the pair as much as Sarah did.

And based on the photos she shared on her blog, the imitation pair is very convincing. The untrained eye wouldn't be able to spot a major difference because the signs were all in the smaller, negligible details. Sarah only knew better because she had just bought a pair of Gucci Marmont shoes beforehand. Other than that, the fake Peytons were apparently comparable in comfort and overall appearance with the real thing.

To soothe her grieving heart though, Sarah resolved to make educational lemonade out of her experience. Watch her compare an authentic Gucci Marmont with a fake Peyton below:

Our advice? Avoid buying your designer goods from online resellers as much as possible. The hassle-free transaction from boutiques and official retailers will always be worth the extra cash.
