Whether you're a Starbucks lover or not, Viveinne Tam's collection for everyone's favorite go-to coffee shop will make you want to pay a visit, have a sip, and relax for an afternoon.
"It's really about coming back to nature." Fashion designer Vivienne Tam tells us in an exclusive phone interview. Her distinct bird and flora print that first appeared in her Spring Summer 2015 collection was the basis for her delicate design reminiscent of hand painted china.

With an East-meets-West design aesthetic, the designer wanted to create pieces of "serenity" that people would associate with "taking a break from their busy schedules." Starbucks approached her nearly a year ago, and she said that process was a new experience. Because unlike clothes, where fabric and silhouettes come into play, this was more about the print.
"I also wanted it to be a little modern. Even though it was a collab, it had to look consistent with my brand."

The designer and Starbucks both worked closely together to find the right materials (especially for the lunch bag, Vivienne points out, since the print might look different on the wrong fabric but still needs to be durable) and the quality of the print. "I made sure that it would look good on any surface—even the curves of a mug or tumbler." She adds.
The gold and red accents also give it a more oriental feel, and accentuate the print more.
And when asked what her favorite drink is, it's oddly not coffee. "I like Starbucks' tea selection. I usually have mine with honey." She says. To each her own dose of caffeine.
The Vivienne Tam + Starbucks collection is now available at Starbucks branches nationwide.
