With "Gilded Glamor" as its theme, this year's Met Gala intended to pay homage to the opulent fashion of late 1800s America. Think corsets, feathers, bows, fringe, ruffles, and every type of embellishments on steroids, a.k.a. fashion in its full excess and grandeur. After all, the gilded age is all about affluence, growth, and industrialization.
The Met Gala attire called for white tie, the most formal dress code amongst all, which is why it was quite a surprise that actress Emma Stone stepped onto the red carpet in a white, feather-trimmed cocktail dress. She kept everything to a minimum even in the beauty department which was actually quite on point relative to the Gilded Age of New York.
Now, you'd might think that Emma perhaps just didn't get the memo or maybe she intentionally went for a 1920s flapper girl-inspired look. But the Oscar winner has two paramount reasons for going a tad off theme.

LOOK: Emma Stone Rewears Her Louis Vuitton Wedding Dress to Met Gala 2022
Emma Stone is actually debuting to the public one of her wedding dresses! The Louis Vuitton frock was originally made for her nuptials' after-party. ICDYK, she got married to writer Dave McCary in 2020, nine months after the couple announced their engagement on Instagram. The pandemic may have forced the couple to go for an intimate and more low-key wedding, but Emma has now found a grander setting to show off her dress!

Aside from the sentimental value of the frock, Emma re-wore her custom dress to stand behind Nicolas Ghesquière's call for sustainability. The Louis Vuitton’s artistic director of women’s collections announced on Instagram that Emma Stone, along with other Louis Vuitton Ambassadors and Friends of the House like Gemma Chan, Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor, Squid Game actress Jung Ho Yeon, and more will be donning "archival or previously worn look with a twist for the occasion." Nicolas dubbed the movement as Louis Vuitton's "commitment towards circular creativity." He further explains, "There is no better feeling than to know your designs will live on."
