Elisse Joson is Proof That Bright, Colorful OOTDs Can Still Look Dainty

When we talk about a "colorful" outfit, we could be referring to several different things. The current retro obsession could be one of the first to come to mind–that is, kaleidoscopic colors expressed through zany prints, and a whole lot funky checkerboard pieces and neon. Of course there's no ignoring Y2k fashion, which is another buzzy aesthetic that's often recognized in relation to how colorful the 'fits can get. 

That said, it's pretty easy to pigeonhole color as something worn only by the bold and daring. This probably explains the tendency to describe anything brightly hued as "funky" or "retro." But we're all about inclusivity here. Even if you don't necessarily identify with these aesthetics, we're here to tell you that you can still wear a lot of color! 

Today, we'll be taking up Elisse Joson as an example of how to wear plenty of color, yet still look super dainty and soft. You'll often spot the 25-year-old actress in citrusy knitwear, tie-dye, and multicolored athleisure. After studying her outfits, we found out how exactly she maintains her dainty lewk: She sticks to a buttery, coordinated color palette. To see what we mean, check out her OOTDs below! 

1. This print might have been bold and funky on a button-down, but since Elisse is wearing it as a headscarf, it affords her a feminine, painterly look. 

2. Bright green and purple usually clash, but their pastel iterations complement one another seamlessly! The soft palette allows the neon detailing on Elisse's Under Armor sneakers to stand out.

3. Is it just us, or does the floppy fringe hat mimic the swirl of her tie-dye shirt? In any case, this 'fit is proof that it's the details that count–down to the shapes and the colors, this ensemble is a match made in heaven. 

4. Now that optical illusion-style blouse would definitely as something quite funky, but it's counterbalanced by the structured lemon coat. There's the fashion takeaway for you: Subdue risky pieces with structure. Also, those rubber Gucci sandals totally tie the outfit together perfectly.

5. Elisse really knows how to wield color in such a cohesive way. We're obsessed with the baby blue motif!  Plus, we're loving the lacy bikini peeking out–it adds a dainty touch and harmonizes so well with the playful, chunky cardigan. 

6. Another play on pastel greens and lavenders! Pair a striped button-down with mint cycling shorts and don't forget the purple socks. Dainty girls can swap chunky sneakers for cute slip-ons or espadrilles. 

7. This cute, citrusy ensemble is a play on squares! Elisse wore a lilac gingham dress and a knitted patchwork cardigan embellished with sequins and iridescent doodads dangling from the cuff. She finished off the look with a trendy beaded necklace. A good rule of thumb: candy colors will always look good together! 

8. The chances of us forgetting this amazingly cozy 'fit? Zero. We're so obsessed with that red velvet teddy coat. That Chanel Gabrielle backpack was the perfect accessory for this look! 

9. Sometimes, less is more. Pair a sleeveless orange tie-dye blouse with teeny tiny pearl stud earrings. 

10. Okay, it's confirmed: Elisse has a thing for pairing lilacs or lavenders with greens! Also, we're getting flashbacks to the early aughts, back when we used to be head over heels in love with headbands. 

11. Bubblegum blue and beige form one of the most satisfying color tandems, ever. Elisse accessorized with chic gingham sunnies and a dotted bag. What's not to love?
