Despite what stereotypes dictate, being more eco-friendly is incredibly simple. A few tweaks to our everyday choices can make all the difference! And to prove just how simple it is, we gathered a list of fashion girl-centric deeds that can help save Mother Earth. They're really simple, and they're things you can do right now. Check them out below!
1. When going shopping, bring a reusable bag.
There's no need to say more about the harmful effects of using plastic. Most cities actually make you pay extra for them now! So to save some cash, we recommend using a reusable tote instead. You can pretty much buy reusable shopping bags everywhere—malls, supermarkets, and even bookstores. But for a chic option, shopper bags are an amazing go-to!
2. Invest in well-made basic pieces.
Quality always trumps quantity when it comes to basics. Instead of relying on fast fashion brands for your wardrobe essentials, splurge a little for ones that are better quality. This way, you'll get so much more value for your money and you won't have to repurchase things so often.
3. Repurpose or DIY clothes you don't wear anymore.
Chances are, most of the clothes you want to throw away can be repurposed. For example, you can wear your old skirts as tops, distress boring straight-cut jeans, or liven up old jackets by adding patches. But for pieces you really can't find new use for, donating them to charity and sustainable fashion projects like H&M's are good alternatives.
4. Dispose your beauty products properly.
Unlike clothes, beauty products actually run out. And to stay eco-friendly with your beauty consumption, you have to know how to dispose your empties. Read our definitive guide for this here!
5. Participate in Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is a project by the World Wildlife Fund that advocates sustainable consumption. And every year, participants turn off their lights for a whole hour to support the cause. Yep, it's that easy!
Earth Hour in the Philippines is on March 25, from 8:30 to 9:30PM. So don't forget flick those switches!
