Team RainXEm spilled the deets about her unexpected red carpet look.

A quick Google search of Kim Chiu’s previous looks at the Star Magic Ball would straightaway reveal her penchant for the dainty, feminine style. But this year, the chinita princess decided to ditch the tulle skirt and opt for the opposite of what people are used to seeing on her. Clad in a sexy black number by Val Taguba, Kim stepped out of her comfort zone and surprised her fans with a dark and daring red carpet look.

Spearheaded by Rainier Dagala and Em Millan, Team RainXEm reveals to Preview all the exciting details about the making of Kim’s look. Read on below and hear everything straight from her stylists.

“[We wanted a look] that is a complete opposite of how Kim has been dressing herself for the past nine years. This means nothing too sweet, nothing too princess-y, and nothing that is expected of her.”

“Kim was very much involved with the making of her look. Together, we went to meetings and fittings just to make sure we achieve the vision. We really admired her throughout the entire process because we felt that she is really trying her best to step out of her comfort zone.”

“We went for dark clothing, strong makeup, and fierce styling—things she would normally consider to be too severe for her image. This sends a message that she’s already grown wiser, bolder, and braver over the years, so she was willing to give it a go. And Val Taguba had the dress that perfectly captures that vision.”

“Kim and our team have only been working for a month, so we were very nervous when she asked us to dress her up for the ball. And at RainXEm, we always push our clients to go beyond their comfort zones and come up with memorable red carpet looks stemming from a strong and big idea. We’re happy that Kim is in the phase of her life where she’s willing to be more flexible and try out new things style-wise, so we both went for the kill.”

“We’re glad that people were able to get the message we were trying to convey. And if this is a sign of how our relationship will evolve as client and stylist, then that means it will be very exciting. Expect to see more stunning looks.”
