The usuals of haute couture probably wouldn't bat an eye to show-stopping looks, but every so often, a guest leaves even the most seasoned Fashion Week visitors in awe. In the case of Spring 2023's Paris Haute Couture Week, that might be none other than American rapper Doja Cat, who had us seeing red–quite literally.
After dipping herself in head-to-toe gold during last year's Fashion Week, the regular scene-stealer was once again a sight for the sorest eyes, this time for her appearance at Schiaparelli. Inspired by the collection’s Inferno motif, Doja was a crimson-red vision as 30,000 Swarovski crystals adorned her body.
Doja, under the styling hands of her longtime creative director Brett Alan Nelson, wore a Schiaparelli bustier and a hand-knit skirt, making a seamless fusion with its lacquered beads and the crystals lining her head to the tips of her fingers. In an Instagram post, makeup veteran Pat McGrath detailed how it all came to be.
“Doja’s sublime patience during the four hours and 58 minutes it took to create the look with Team Pat McGrath, which was covered in over 30,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals, was inspiring,” she wrote. “The final product was a magical, mesmerising masterpiece of sparkling brilliance.”
