With over 80 years of swimwear expertise, Speedo discovers the future and rediscovers the past throughout the design ethos of its latest Spring/Summer 2011 collection. The colors, graphics and applications are tied under a theme of “Discovery” with key colors of Lobster, Iron Grey and a Pink. Historical blueprints and nostalgic patterns are examples of the elements used to resonate the brand’s heritage.
The ingenious use of materials and integrity to quality remain to be a strong platform for the swimwear brand; but one more thing that's notable is how Speedo has come to infuse a range of prints to its designs—from high contrast to graduated segments of colors to motion and movement—to give its swimwear a sense of excitement and energy. It’s a far cry from the solids and color-blocking we grew accustomed to in the '80s and '90s.
Four capsule collections have been unveiled for Spring/Summer 2011: Competitive, Fitness, Health and Wellbeing, and Beach Sports. Each assortment heralds its functionality, aesthetics and suitability.
For obvious reasons, the Competitive collection is still the foremost choice of many athletes. Speedo’s years of study to provide top class performance swimwear with cutting-edge technology, LZR, have reached greater heights when it comes to this pedigree. It’s also interesting to note that the brand has integrated stylish elements to this line particularly, making it fashionable enough to win style points in the water.
The retro-inspired prints and colors in its Beach Sports collection break out of the box, so to speak, of the style one might associate with a performance-centric brand. The swimwear label has been recently treading the fashion sphere, what with its previous collaboration with Brazilian designer Rosa Cha, synthesizing quality and function with sophistication and style.
Even the Fitness collection has been integrated with a futuristic feel; and all collections come in bright seasonal colors. It’s a non-boring option for those gals who choose to swim to get their weekly dose of exercise.
