For his debut Cruise collection for Dior, Jonathan Anderson pens a love letter to Hollywood and the language of film itself.

The house’s longstanding connection to Hollywood was a key source of inspiration. The collection’s central premise traces back to Stage Fright, the 1950 thriller by Alfred Hitchcock, in which German-American actress Marlene Dietrich famously insisted that Christian Dior personally create the costumes for her character, the glamorous Charlotte Inwood.

In a press statement, Jonathan articulated the premise upon which the collection was conceived:

“Christian Dior understood how important the idea of ‘the dream’ was for people after the war, as a form of escapism. He explored this in couture; his Surrealist friends were obsessed with dreams, and, of course, Hollywood is ‘The Dream Factory’. It was all part of the same cross-cultural shift,” he narrated.

From there, Jonathan conjured a cast of characters, brought to life through a glittering lineup of 75 looks presented on the runway.

Staged at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on the evening of May 13, the presentation unfolded like a cinematic tableau, capturing the many personas and archetypes that shape the world of film.

As seen throughout his earlier work, Jonathan continues to move away from the rigid conventions often associated with luxury dressing. In its place, he proposes a wardrobe that feels easier, more relaxed, and adaptable to a wider spectrum of personal styles—whether that’s understated and effortless or overtly theatrical.

Fluidity was a unifying element throughout the presentation. Sweeping capes and draped dresses appeared in lustrous metallic knits, accented with glittering embellishments, handcrafted rosettes, and intentionally raw edges.

Jonathan continues to seek out fresh ways to reinvent Dior’s house signatures. The iconic Bar jacket, for instance, was extended to mid-thigh length and reworked with distressed treatments, unfinished hems, and frayed detailing bursting from the sleeves.
