The florid days of heavy baroque accessorizing is finally done, thank goodness. Or at least it's on hiatus this summer, if Yekky Balingit would have his way. The designer behind accessory label Miadore is pulling himself away from the arena of ornate embellishment with his latest collection, Cult of Halcyon.
While the word halcyon conjures images of peace, tranquility, serenity and such, Cult's accessories are anything but. They are not timid nor indiscreetly expressive of the hushed poise of good ol' jewelry; in fact, the pieces are bold, sharp, and wanton in their expression of wicked style, redolent of the mischief that any cult is capable of stirring.
Perhaps, Yekky derived Halcyon from the sparse embellishment of these newest products compared to his past collections, in which case they are serene enough. But to associate them with meekness because of the clearness and blank slate quality of the material he used—clear acrylics—would be a grave mistake, because you'd be robbing yourself of the verve and energy these pellucid things impart. See for yourself.
