WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO BECOME A DESIGNER?
CHOC: I wanted to make clothes that were not available in the market.
YVETTE: We both love fashion and we discovered our creative side after college!
HOW DID YOU START AS A DESIGNER?
CHOC: I started by doing my entourage’s gowns for my wedding. And then Yvette encouraged me to do RTW. We consigned our first collection at SYKat. And that same year I was featured as one of Preview's Designers to Watch.
YVETTE: Choc and I went to grad school and pursued our creative side. She went to fashion school and I went to PSID. We started with two employees at the basement of our parents’ house. I realized that aside from my love for shopping and dressing up, I also love designing clothes. What is great is we have a team—even if I lack skills in drawing and the technical side, we complement each other!
WHERE DID YOU RECEIVE YOUR DESIGN TRAINING?
CHOC: I took up Fashion Design at La Salle College International-Manila.
YVETTE: I didn't have any formal training in fashion design but I am still learning the technical side from Choc, our staff, and by reading books.
WHAT IS YOUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY?
CHOC: I make clothes to make women feel beautiful and confident.
YVETTE: Make clothes that are feminine, comfortable, flattering, and beautiful.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION?
CHOC: Everywhere. I am mostly inspired when I travel abroad.
YVETTE: It really varies and I don’t limit it on a specific thing. From our travels, arts, accessories, food, people-watching and anything that catches our attention.
WHO ARE YOUR STYLE ICONS? YOUR STYLE INFLUENCES/INSPIRATIONS?
CHOC: Audrey Hepburn. She’s timeless.
WHICH DESIGNERS/ARTISTS DO YOU ADMIRE MOST?
CHOC: I admire Viktor & Rolf's works. I also love Valentino.
YVETTE: I’m loving Jil Sander’s S/S 2011.
WHO WOULD YOU LOVE TO DRESS? WHO ARE THE CLIENTS YOU ENJOY WORKING WITH?
CHOC: I love working with my brides. I feel how important this is for them. I’m just lucky that they put their trust In me to make them beautiful on their special day.
WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF TIMELESS STYLE?
CHOC Besides Audrey Hepburn, I admire MadamE Imelda Marcos. I love how she wears our terno.
YVETTE: Tina Maristela-Ocampo, Mrs. Imelda Marcos, Jackie O.
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE AS A DESIGNER?
CHOC: To always please your clients.
YVETTE: To keep on designing great pieces that will transform into sales.
WHICH ASPECT OF THE DESIGN PROCESS DO YOU ENJOY MOST?
CHOC: When we see our clients very happy and satisfied.
YVETTE: When new clients come to us because they love what we did for their friend or relative.
WHAT'S THE BEST CLOTHING ITEM/ACCESSORY WOMEN/MEN SHOULD HAVE?
CHOC: Basic black dress and jeans.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE GARMENT OR FASHION ACCESSORY?
CHOC: Shoes. I also love chunky necklaces.
ANY CURRENT TRENDS THAT YOU'RE FOND OF? ANY CURRENT OBSESSIONS?
CHOC: Even if I’m tall I’m fond of wearing 5” heels.
YVETTE: Flats and wedges (cork heels and espadrilles).
HOW HAVE YOU EVOLVED AS A DESIGNER?
CHOC: I would say I have matured. My taste is different now since I started. I always think of what would satisfy my client.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN YOUR CAREER?
CHOC: We were able to put up a retail store in Greenbelt 5. That we make clothes that make our clients happy and proud.
WHAT IS THE GREATEST COMPLIMENT YOU HAVE RECEIVED ABOUT YOUR WORK?
That we can go global with our creations!
WHAT ASPECT OF DESIGN HAVE YOU DEVOTED TIME TO MASTER?
We don’t want to say that we have mastered something! We want to continuously learn and grow!
ASPIRATIONS FOR THE BRAND IN THE FUTURE?
To go global!!!
