Designer Spotlight: Noelle Llave Meet one of SoFA's best young graduates and one of Preview's Ten Designers to Watch for 2010.

Noelle Llave showcased her School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA) graduation collection entitled Humanation  during Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2010. She was awarded the Best Merchandise Collection award during the graduation fashion show because of the creative mastery and design adeptness of her 10-piece human anatomy-inspired repertoire. Naturally, the Preview editors took notice of her potential, and so they cast her as one of Preview's Ten Designers to Watch this year.

"This collection was  such a valuable learning experience," Noelle says. "It taught me to grow as a person and to believe that dreams really do come true, of course with the help of great friends and great mentors." Read on to find out what this budding talent has to say about her lauded graduation collection.

WHAT MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUES DID YOU USE?

Bridal satin, stretch cotton and jersey. I used pleating and cutouts to achieve a 3D effect.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT HUMANATION'S MUTED COLOR STORY.

I really love the whole feel of simplicity of muted colors, so I used mostly grays and pastel colors. And being an avid fan of details, I figured that if I had used loud colors, the details of the pieces would be outshined.

WHAT CAN WE LOOK FORWARD TO FROM YOUR NEXT COLLECTION?

A cleaner, more polished look and well-thought out collections that are both wearable and interesting, but still maintain my avant-garde aesthetics.  I might be using different, lighter, pastel hues of colors to my future collections to give them a twist of femininity.
