Designer Class

We're going back to school with SoFA.
Designer Class We're going back to school with SoFA.

Finally, the country's fashionistas have a SoFA where they prop up and rest their stiletto-clad feet. No, we're not talking about a couch, but this SoFA is definitely a comfort zone for fashion-forward folks and tomorrow's style-makers. For the uninitiated, SoFA stands for The School of Fashion and the Arts, founded by Amina Aranaz-Alunan and Loralee Baron-Soong. With their new and improved facilities and programs, the faculty and staff of SoFA Manila are more than ready to provide a venue for would-be fashion designers, retailers, and the like to learn how to make it work in the local industry.

The Curriculum

Whether you're a curious fashion newbie or a serious fashion designer wannabe, SoFA offers the perfect alternative to a conventional college education. “There's nothing like it,” Amina says. Anyone can choose among SoFA's courses: certificate programs (3-6 months), short courses (14 sessions), diploma courses, or the associate degree.

That last one, namely the Fashion Design and Marketing Associate Degree, is the best example of SoFA's “real world” education style. It equips students with both the fashion skills and business savvy required to make it in the fashion industry. SoFA Manila's partnership with The One School also ensures that you can take technical and creative courses like Pattern Making or Pattern Illustration, and then hop next door for your minor subjects and business classes.

The Store

At the moment, students are already enjoying the winning formula of business and fashion. Clothes, bags, makeup, and even furniture pieces are already on sale at the Retail Lab, a boutique that actualizes what students have learned from the classroom.
