Just three months after his wedding, Filipino-American actor Darren Criss once again donned a custom Francis Libiran piece. This time, the Filipino designer crafted a sheer art deco jacket embroidered with glass beadwork for Darren's appearance on the purple carpet for Aladdin's world premiere. "I wanted to revolutionize the design concept of the bomber jacket, veering away from the typical sporty feel. I think it also perfectly fits Darren’s sartorial taste and fashion style," Francis tells Preview.
As it turns out, the jacket was a gift for Darren from Francis' team last month. "We had the privilege of bonding with him and his wife Mia Swier, stylist Ashley Weston, manager Ricky Rollins and publicist Michael Samonte when they visited Manila last April," the local designer reveals. "During their visit, we gifted Darren with a beaded, fully-embroidered Francis Libiran jacket as a gift. I was so surprised and honored to see him wear it during the world premiere of Aladdin in Hollywood!"
Francis' Instagram caption proudly reads, "So happy that @darrencriss is wearing my fully-embroidered signature Art Deco jacket as he attends the world premiere of Aladdin in Hollywood!!"
Looking positively spruced up at the El Capitan Theater, Darren kept his look simple and sharp with a white long-sleeved polo and black trousers, allowing for his intricately designed bomber-style jacket to take center stage.
Last February, Francis also had the pleasure of dressing Darren for the first time—and for the actor's wedding day no less. Taking it back to his Filipino roots, Darren wore an art deco-embroidered Barong Tagalog of Francis' design, made out of hand-loomed piña fabric.
But back to the Aladdin movie, apart from Darren, Francis also recently dressed Aladdin himself, Mena Massoud, for his TV appearance on Ellen. Francis writes, "So happy and honored to see the dapper @menamassoud, #Aladdin himself, in a custom @FrancisLibiran bomber jacket as he appears on @theellenshow! Can’t wait to watch Aladdin, now showing in theaters worldwide!"
Looks like Francis is becoming a Hollywood fave—and we can totally see why!

Proving the global appeal of Filipino design, just a few days after his Aladdin apperance, British magazine GQ listed Darren and his outfit as part of their Best Dressed Men of the Week. They particularly hailed Francis' creation to be a cut above the rest of today's sheer trend. "Sure there's a trend right now for sheer shirts, but Darren Criss just trumped everyone with this sheer emroidered jacket," the magazine writes.
Francis also proudly announced the achievement on his Facebook page just a few hours ago. "This is so amazing!! British GQ Magazine hails Hollywood multi-awarded actor Darren Criss wearing custom Francis Libiran beaded art deco bomber jacket, as one of this week’s Best-Dressed Men! So honored to be recognized by the best men’s fashion magazine in the world alongside with other international designer brands!! Thank you, GQ!" his post reads.
