Danica's Homecoming! Danica Magpantay on wearing vintage Slim's and the fluidity of Arnold Galang’s line at her first ever Philippine Fashion Week.

Lucky, lucky Danica Magpantay, winner of the Ford Supermodel of the World 2011 competition, has done what many Filipina models dream off, walk the runways of New York Fashion Week. What’s especially crazy is that she did the shows there before actually getting to model for Philippine Fashion Week (PFW).

We caught up with the 17-year-old after her first day at the shows (day two of Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2011) to ask her about the experience.

Which show did you enjoy the most?

I liked both shows [“10” and Arnold Galang | Chris Diaz | Gerry Katigbak] because with the first one, the ten designers, it set the mood for the whole fashion week—great collections and designers. The closing designer for the show was Salvacion Lim-Higgins, who is a big part of the history of the Philippine fashion industry, and being a part of that show, being able to wear her clothes is really amazing. They even pulled it out of the archives so we could wear it.

[The start of] the second show was Arnold Galang and I liked his clothes. It represented Tibet, like monks, the journey, the colors. I got to buy the shoes! (Shows us blue platform wedges with a look of delight.) They’re six or seven inches, comfortable, and he gave them to us for a really, really good price—undisclosed, I’m not going to tell you!

I enjoyed because I love wearing the clothes. The way he made the clothes, it’s very flowy, a lot of draping, the combination; he was able to bring out his theme in a way that was fashionable and easy to wear.

Would you say that your first day at PFW was a good day?

Yeah, very good! It’s a different experience from [New York] but the reception back here in the Philippines is really different. In New York it’s very exciting because I’ve always dreamt of doing that. Here, everybody received me well, with a lot of warmth.

Right now, I’m standing here waiting for my ride and people come up to me and ask to have a photo taken with me. I like to kid around and pretend to say “no, I don’t like” but of course I do take a picture with them. I’m still me, I like to kid around.

Danica, together with fellow Filipina Ford Models Charo Ronquillo and Chat Almarvez will be walking a number of shows this week ending with the closing tribute show, which will soon be revealed.
