After eight years of viral runway moments and sleek, futuristic designs, Coperni is shutting down operations. The Parisian label, founded by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, announced the news on November 4, citing a dispute that led to the decision.

Coperni Ceases Operations

According to the founders, they have “tried everything” to preserve the brand and resolve their ongoing conflict with Tomorrow, their majority shareholder and exclusive distributor since 2019.

It can be recalled that Coperni entered receivership last June, a process in which a company is placed under the control of a receiver, typically amid financial difficulties. The move was Sébastien and Arnaud’s attempt to regain control of the business as it grappled with monetary challenges. Unfortunately, their efforts were not enough to keep the brand afloat.

Their statement reads, “Despite all our efforts, no solution could be found.”

Coperni made its name as a minimalist label that often integrated technology and precision into its designs. Its collections captured a youthful Parisian flair by blending nonchalance, sexiness, and femininity. Though its run in the fashion industry was relatively brief, the label left its mark on popular culture through a series of memorable moments.

Bella Hadid's Spray-On Dress

In 2022, Coperni made headlines with its Spring/Summer presentation, during which a dress was sprayed onto supermodel Bella Hadid in real time. The result was an off-the-shoulder midi dress, characterized by a high slit and a form-fitting silhouette. The label quite literally created a garment out of nothing before the audience's eyes and gave a glimpse of what the future of fashion could look like.

Swipe Bag

Beyond the runway, Coperni also became a favorite among stylish women in the Philippines and around the globe. Its beloved Swipe Bag, in particular, had its fair share of fashion fame, seen in the hands of Gigi Hadid, Doja Cat, Dua Lipa, Pia Jauncey, Belle Mariano, and more.

True to the label's penchant for technology and innovation, the Swipe Bag also came in experimental glass and air iterations.
