The year 2025 is shaping up to be a time when boho chic makes a full-fledged revival—and few brands embody that aesthetic as distinctly as Chloé. Since its founding in 1952, the French maison has been synonymous with free-spirited elegance, shaping the wardrobes of women who favor a no-frills and romantic way of dressing.
The early 2000s cemented its place as an undisputed it-brand of its milieu. Under Phoebe Philo’s creative direction, Chloé became one of the decade’s most influential labels. Alongside the still-coveted Paddington bag, her take on the wedge sandal emerged as a defining shoe of the era—a pair of sky-high platforms with a distinctly curved, wood block sole.
Two decades down the line, with Chemena Kamali at the helm, Chloé is revisiting its archives to fully mine that golden era. As part of her debut Spring/Summer 2025 collection, she introduces the house’s iconic wedge heels in the form of the Maxime. This time, the German designer fashions it as a love letter to the house’s past, updated for a new generation of wearers.
By the following Fall/Winter 2024 show, the brand had cleverly seeded the shoes to its front-row guests—ensuring the cork platforms with black leather criss-cross straps were impossible to miss. As it turns out, the move generated instant online buzz, setting the stage for their in-store release this season.

Now, the Maxime Wedges have been spotted on elite style stars, including the likes of Heart Evangelista, Anne Curtis, and Solenn Heussaff.

What is the Chloé Maxime Wedge?
The Maxime Wedge Sandals take design cues from the original silhouette by Phoebe Philo, which made an appearance on the Spring/Summer 2006. At the time, the shoes were defined by its towering wooden platform with T-shaped straps. Notably, that season also marked Phoebe’s return from maternity leave, delivering what would become one of her most influential collections for Chloé. Light, fluid dresses, A-line skirts, and layered fabrics effectively typified her “old-woman chic” aesthetic—anchored by the strikingly steep, curved wood-block wedges.
Phoebe Philo’s designs came in multiple iterations: broad leather straps with ankle buckles, loafer-inspired uppers, and Mary Jane silhouettes—all set atop the same dramatic wedge base.

For her debut Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Chemena Kamali referenced Phoebe Philo’s wedge with the same 13-centimeter platform and an 8-centimeter heel-to-toe drop. The updated version is carved with handwritten engravings referencing the house’s history, including “1952”—the year founder Gaby Aghion established Chloé—and “5 Av. Percier, Paris”—the address of its headquarters. The doodle-like motifs are what the brand described as a "love letter” to the maison.

The Different Versions of the Maxime Wedge
The Maxime Wedges are offered in four versions. Each design simply varies on the materials used and the design of the upper.
1. Criss-cross straps in leather
This iteration is crafted in semi-shiny cowhide over a wood-effect wedge and retails for $1,274 (approximately P72,417). It comes in black, a warm caramel shade called “Ginger Brown,” and blush pink—the latter priced slightly higher at $1,278 (around P72,672).
Notably, Chloé sources its leather from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG), an international body that audits environmental performance across water use, energy efficiency, chemical management, and waste disposal. The practice is one of the house’s initiatives in reinforcing its commitment to eco-conscious production practices.

2. Slingback straps in PVC
A more playful, summer-ready option arrives in translucent PVC, available in “Pink Fizz” and “Sunny Brown.” This version is priced at $1,145 (about P65,095) and offers a lighter, breezier take on the design.

3. The square, open-toe upper
Those who prefer a streamlined silhouette can opt for the square open-toe style made from vegetable-tanned calfskin, retailing at $1,222 (around P69,488).

4. The pumps
Rounding out the line is the Maxime Wedge Pump—a closed-toe, Mary Jane-inspired style offered in glossy black patent calfskin or matte eggshell white LWG-certified leather. This more structured option is the most expensive of the collection, priced at $1,407 (approximately P80,008).
