Chi Gibbs Just Designed a Retro-Inspired Nike Air Jordan 2 Sneaker in Collaboration with TITAN

Alyssa “Chi” Gibbs has just made one of her dreams come true: a shoe collaboration with basketball-based brand TITAN, which features her own design on a pair of Air Jordan 2 Lows!

The musician and entrepreneur announced the good news on her Instagram, penning her caption with a heartfelt message. "I cannot find the words to describe how incredibly honored I am to be chosen by @titan_22 as their design partner on their @jumpman23 collaboration. To say that it’s been a dream come true working with [the] Jordan brand is one thing, but to be able to honor my grandfather’s legacy as a Filipino basketball player through this project is beyond anything I could ever imagine.”

ICYDK, Chi is actually the granddaughter of one of Philippine basketball’s most famed players Carlos “Caloy” Loyzaga. Being related to one of the biggest names in the sports scene back in the ‘50s and ‘60s, there's no question that basketball runs in her blood. One of the biggest parts of Chi's design process for this project was her grandfather’s old photos with the Philippine team during their trip to Brazil in 1954. As a fan of all things retro herself, the colors, materials, and overall design of her sneakers drew inspiration from this era.

And true enough, with the shoe’s bright color palette consisting of orange, green, and teal, plus a mix of different materials like suede and corduroy, we can truly see what a labor of love it was for the multi-creative.

However, what’s most striking about Chi's sneaker design is the sole. Flipping the TITAN x AJ2’s over reveals a colorful graphic artwork featuring a collage of basketball action shots. The numbers “14” and “41” are shown to pay tribute to her grandfather’s jersey numbers. Moreover, we also see the number “22” to represent TITAN and “23” for Michael Jordan. 

As Chi shared this memorable milestone in her life, several celeb friends and loved ones of hers took to the comments section of her post to give their heartfelt congratulations to the artist.
