Coralie Charriol Paul, who succeeds her father, Philippe Charriol, as executive chairwoman of the Swiss luxury goods company, assures everyone that all is well in House Charriol. Early this year, the Charriol founder succumbed to injuries sustained while on the Circuit Paul Ricard at Le Castellet, Var in France.

Now, a young team, which includes Coralie, her brother Alexander Charriol, who serves as art director and director of licenses, CEO Ludovic Lesur, and the executive team in Geneva and Hong Kong, steers the ship. The chairwoman, who was in Manila recently, describes the new generation of Charriol leaders as “the one that is going to take forward the evolution of this company.”
Philippe, a charismatic bon vivant and trailblazer, is a tough act to follow, but Coralie is more than ready to take on the task, having been involved in the family business as its creative director since 2002. The entrepreneur, mother, and philanthropist has also designed 27 jewelry collections in Charriol’s portfolio, which just underscores how much she has helped shape the brand’s identity and, more importantly, captured the dreams of women and men via the language of twisted cable.

Dressed in a fully sequined two-piece suit in lipstick red, complemented by a deep berry color on her lips and a stack of cable bracelets on her arm, Coralie discusses the state of the brand and its Celtic-inspired bracelets. “Okay, here's what you can expect in the days ahead…,” she says to a room full of expectant people. “Charriol will remain the undisputed world leader in the luxury cable products. Alright—so I'm going to say it again…”
She repeats the proclamation as if it was a spell and then segues into something unexpected: The underlying spirit of Charriol. “Here’s what I know for certain,” she says. “Love makes you capable more than you can ever imagine. And with love, you are strong and you're fearless. And you find the very best in yourself and you feel driven to share it. And that's always been a goal of Charriol.”
Which brings us to the reason for her trip to Manila, the screening of The Story of Plastic. A passion project for Coralie, the documentary details how the world arrived at the sorry state of landfills and oceans choked with pollution—an “ugly truth,” as she describes it.
As a mom of little green warriors—“my kids want to recycle, they want to reduce, they want to reuse, they don't want plastic straws anywhere”—Corlie shares how she started to pay more attention to the ocean. Then, the executive became part of Lonely Whale, a Seattle-based movement that advocates the reduction of plastic straws and has already, as its website reports, removed 2.3 million single-use plastic straws from the city.
“But that's just the beginning because we have to really ban more single-use plastics,” she adds. So now, there is this documentary, of which Coralie serves as executive producer, as well as a new timepiece from Charriol that is dedicated to one of the animals affected by plastic pollution, the sea turtle.
