French luxury house Chanel is reportedly selling a "wood and resin" Boomerang priced at about $1500, and people are not happy. The brand is under fire and accused for cultural appropriation, ignorance, and exploitation.
Australian Aborigines, who belong to the poorest demographics in Australia, see boomerangs as one of its important symbols, and is considered one of the oldest hunting tools ever created by man. By embalzoning Chanel's logo on the traditional tool, Time.com reports that they are turning "the traditional hunting weapon into a status symbol."
The Chanel Boomerang is part of the house's Spring/Summer 2017 luxury sports collection which consists of beach rackets, tennis balls and rackets, and paddle boards that retail within a range of $450-$3600.
Unknown to many, Chanel has been selling a range of luxury sporting goods in the past years. They have sold surf boards, basketballs, footballs, table tennis paddles, fishing rods, and more. And this season's boomerang isn't the first time the brand released such accessory.

In lieu of the backlash, Chanel says in a statement that they are "extremely committed to respecting all cultures, and regrets that some may have felt offended." The said boomerang is still available on the site for purchase.
