Cesar Gaupo wowed fashionable Manila on the last day of Philippine Fashion Week last October when he presented his Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Combining volume in frills and flounces with streamlined silhouettes cut from a bevy of elegant fabrics, he showed once again why he is one of the Philippines' most esteemed designers.
But being a shoe man as well, the spectacle of his PFW outing didn't lie in the clothes alone. The footwear the models strutted in demanded equal attention from Cesar's audience, and we present them here with equal due.
Entitled Abstraction, the collection "is born in search of newness and [a] fresh approach in designing the shoe," Cesar says. "I was attracted by the abstract forms of different shapes, [and wanted to] formulate a new character/approach in every design."
"Every form is attributed to color, every color is the product of form," he adds, and indeed, it is evident that he enjoyed playing around with these two qualities while creating the collection. From neutral-tone or animal print strappy heels, royal purple and gold peep-toes, to carmine suede T-straps with stitch detailing, there's a lot of diversity in Abstraction, but one characteristic binds the pairs together: they're all sexy and very feminine, and are all something Cesar's "muses"—women who are conscious of what is modern, and understand quality and beauty—would love to wear.
