This year's Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute (Met) Gala honors the genius behind the avant-garde looks of Comme des Garçons that is Rei Kawakubo. The Japanese designer is one of the fashion world's most influential designers, whom the Costume Institute’s curator in charge Andrew Bolton describes as someone who has "defined the aesthetics of our time." Additionally, Anna Wintour talks of Rei's vision in awe, saying, "She's a genius. Not only does she think outside of the box, she doesn't acknowledge the box."

As everyone celebrated the Met Gala in honor of the avant-garde designer, the attendees faced a more challenging task of paying tribute to Rei Kawakubo. And what better way to honor a revolutionary and groundbreaking designer than to actually wear her clothes? Below, see all the celebrities who artfully sported Comme des Garçons at this year's Met Gala.

Rihanna

Bad girl Riri slayed the red carpet in a floral Comme des Garçons outfit from the Fall 2016 collection. She balanced the heavy piece by wearing a slinky, strappy heels that tied the whole look together.

Helen Lasichanh and Pharrell Williams

Pharrell and his wife Helen went twinning in Rei Kawakubo masterpieces. Did you know that Rei personally picked out this dress for Helen?

Caroline Kennedy

The former U.S. Ambassador to Japan attended the fashion event of the year in a floral tiered gown that made all the other dresses pale in comparison. She totally made a fierce comeback since she ascended the Met steps back in 2001.

Sofía Sanchez Barrenechea

Art director and fashion consultant Sofia rocked a two-piece Comme des Garçons creation, which gave off a rocker chic vibe polished with voluminous ruffles that are unmistakably a Rei opus.

Anna Cleveland and Stella Tenant (farthest right)

Model Anna Cleveland gushed over her classic Comme des Garçons attire, an avant-garde interpretation to a structured top and cropped trousers adorned with bows. Meanwhile, Stella was clad in a deep blue dress with puffy sleeves. She directed the otherwise feminine feel of the dress to a rock glam vibe by slipping on a pair of fishnet stockings and a wet tousled pixie cut hair.

Michèle Lamy and Rick Owens

The pair walked the red carpet in Rei Kawakubo creations: Michèle was clad in a voluminous Fall 2016 Comme des Garçons dress, which Rei worked on while "imagining punks in the 18th century, a time of so many revolutions."

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross stunned in a regal blue Comme des Garçons dress. The actress wore a structured mini dress with a rigid neckline reminiscent of Rei Kawakubo's famous forms.
