It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a fan of the brand before. When your favorite celebrities announce their collaboration with fashion lines, you’re sure to go gaga over it and you'd fight to get your hands on their items ASAP. It’s a strategy that clever brands are doing to further amplify their publicity, and we’re not complaining. Among the various celebrity x footwear collaborations, we’ve listed our top nine favorites, which made waves this 2014. Are they matches made in heaven? Yes, they are, without a doubt.
Last September, Rita Ora debuted her first collaboration with adidas. With her daring designs and floral prints seen in her Originals collection, Rita Ora definitely did not let us down.
Described by the brand as “the beginning of a long collaboration,” Pharrell Williams made us very happy with the variety of colors present especially in his “Polka Dot” pack of Stan Smith sneakers. If you’re allergic to patterns, Pharrell also has a “Solids” pack, which includes another of three Stan Smith models done in monochromatic red, blue, and black.
Solange Knowles has been surprising us recently. From having probably the most stylish and quirkiest wedding of the year, she just released her second collection from her collaboration with sports brand Puma entitled “Wild Wonder.” Similar to her “Girls of Blaze” set that blew us away earlier this year in February, the designs of her recent collection experiment with strong patterns, lines, and shapes combined with striking tones and skillfully executed color blocking.
As Nike presented their “Risk Everything” campaign right before the World Cup this year, they collaborated with football superstars Neymar Jr. (Brazil), Andres Iniesta (Spain), and heartthrob Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), releasing three of the most popular and refined boots in football culture right now.
Along with fresh pieces from Ronaldo’s CR7 collection courtesy of his collaboration with the sports megabrand, he also debuted his latest Nike Mercurical Superfly CR7 last October 2014. We are in love with the new iteration of Nikeskin technology that allows for a shimmering effect on the boots’ silhouette. These boots also fit like socks and are lightweight all thanks to its Dynamic Fit collar and Flyknit technology features.
Moving on from sports, Taylor Swift’s collaboration with Keds will never grow old as she continues to release trendy designs for the American brand. Her latest collection for the spring season is more on the feminine side and reveals more about her likes and fondness of certain things. The latest “Sneaky Cat” design expresses her love for well, cats–especially for her own posse: Meredith and Olivia. This was in addition to her previous designs that are a bit vintage and explores the combination of stripes, florals, and polka dot patterns.
These Maleficent–inspired creations by Angelina Jolie and Christian Louboutin will surely get you spellbound. The curled heel, pointed toe, and nude mesh create an illusion of magic and, according to the brand, “the result is an exclusive shoe that’s dark, dangerous, and altogether seductive.” Being the goodhearted woman that she is, Angelina made sure that the profits of these bewitching steppers will go to an organization that helps orphaned and abandoned children, one that has previously received help from Jolie – SOS Children’s Villages.
Known for being an actress, model, and style icon, Olivia Palermo collaborated with Italian fashion label Aquazzura this year to create a capsule shoe collection. According to designer Edgardo Osorio (who worked with her in creating the six-piece collection), “Olivia and I have a very similar vision of shoes. She is a real style icon and has amazing knowledge about shoes and accessories. We wanted to create a capsule collection of the styles every woman needs in her closet, interpreted with the Aquazzura aesthetic and seen through the eyes of Olivia.”
“The collection features elegant over-the-knee boots, statement jewel sandals, metallic leather, lace-up gladiator styles, suede pumps and booties featuring Aquazzura’s coveted cashmere-soft leather.” (Shoetribe.wordpress.com)
Aside from these standouts, there are also two new collaborations we are definitely looking forward to on the first quarter of 2015.
The edgy songstress, Iggy Azalea, will give designing shoes a shot with her partnership with Steve Madden, to be released on the month of hearts, February 2015.
Kate Bosworth has always been one of our more quiet style icons and come March next year, she can finally add designer to her resume. Releasing a 20-pair collection that reflects the kind of woman that she is, her line includes star-spangled ankle booties, chunky-heeled sandals and dainty pointy-toed mules that all have one important ingredient in common: comfort.
