Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2019 Gazini Ganados last night, and you can bet she did her job in shimmering style. She wore two intricate, sparkling Mak Tumang dresses to the pageant, one in sunny yellow, and the other modeled after an exotic Philippine orchid.
The first swathed Catriona in splendid sunbeams. The flowing, low-cut frock, done in marigold and white streaked fabric, made its debut as she stood statuesque beside actress Anne Curtis, the night's host.
And finally, to bid the Bb. Pilipinas stage farewell, Catriona did her symbolic final walk and powerful goodbye speech in this vivid cerise waling-waling-inspired gown that's officially become unforgettable.
"The waling-waling is a paragon of unmitigated beauty. Many regard it as the rarest, most beautiful, and most expensive among all the flora our country has," Mak wrote in an Instagram post. "This rightfully gives justice to it being dubbed as the Queen of Philippine Flowers."
Praising Catriona, the designer went on to say, "She is absolutely a queen of beauty and substance. This flower, like Catriona, continues to be on treetops and aspires for greater heights. The Queen of the Filipinos' hearts bids farewell to her reign here. Yet, she will incessantly reach and touch the bright sun, making her justly symbolic of the Filipino’s unceasing hope and tenacity."
We agree, Mak. Congratulations again to all our queens!
