"Hindi ko talaga kaya. I felt so bad."

Cassy Legaspi reveals that her biggest fashion splurge was a pair of designer heels with a five-digit price tag. She was so thrifty with her earnings that it took some arm-twisting from her mom Carmina Villarroel and brother Mavy to convince her to make the purchase in 2019.

Cassy tells PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal): "Yung sapatos ko kasi, yung mga flats ko, yung mga heels ko, sira-sira na. Sabi ng mom ko, 'Can you please just buy one? Kahit one pair of flats. It doesn't have to be expensive, just buy it.' Sabi ko, 'No, it's okay, I can still wear it naman.'"

Weighing the pros and cons

Now on her second year in showbiz, Cassy is a mainstay of GMA-7's Sunday musical variety show All-Out Sundays, a co-host of Sarap, 'Di Ba?, and a cast member for the upcoming teleserye First Yaya.

Her mom and brother said she could use a new pair of good shoes for photoshoots, tapings, and other work-related events. The 19-year-old Cassy elaborates: "Siyempre as an artista, you have to look decent naman. Sa mga tapings dapat maganda yung sapatos or clothes. Eventually, when I turned 18 na, dalaga na, dapat may heels na."

Her mom convinced her to buy her own pair, but Cassy wanted to use her own money. "Sabi ko, 'I wanted my own money para 'Awww this is my first investment.," she says.

Mavy, who was with Cassy during a taped interview for PEP Exclusives, teases his sister about being so indecisive when she bought the designer heels. He recalls in between laughs, "Si Mom was comforting her, na parang, 'You need this.' Ako, 'Ang arte mo, bilhin mo na iyan. Go!'

"Ayoko na ako lang mag-isa yung bumibili. Gusto ko may kasama akong bumibili para I don't feel as bad. 'Shucks, I spent this much. Si Cassy hindi.' So, 'Cass, bili ka na!'"

Final decision

Cassy, on the other hand, remembers turning to her mom for assurance one last time. She tells PEP.ph, "Nag-second guess ako, 'Huwag na lang.' My mom said, 'No. Because this will last until you're my age.'

"Sa isip ko, 'Tama naman siya.' So, ayun nga. Hahaha! We bought it na." But guess what happened next?

Laughing, Cassy recalls, "So after I bought it, nasuka ako, then I cried. Hindi ko talaga kaya. I felt so bad.
"Sabi ko, 'Mommy, if you want to borrow my shoes, you can borrow it.' 'No, it's yours.' Ayoko talaga, nasusuka ako. Naalala ko lang na meron akong ganyan, nasusuka ako. Wow!"

Cassy's simple joys

Apparently, Cassy is one shopper who'd rather spend on drawer organizers and glowing lights for her room decor than on designer clothes, shoes, or bags.

She reiterates, "Hindi ako masyadong ma-spend... Sa little things lang talaga. Pero kapag designer brands na medyo mahal siya, ayoko talaga."

Besides, Cassy reasons, she can always borrow from her mom's closet!
