Carolina Herrera Steps Down as Creative Director of Her Namesake Brand Find out who's replacing her.

Carolina Herrera will hold her last fashion show as the brand's creative director at the Fall 2018 presentation of New York Fashion Week. She founded and held the helm since 1981, and now the 79-year-old legendary designer announces that she's ready to finally pass the reins. The brand has officially appointed 31-year-old designer Wes Gordonwho worked as their creative consultant for the past 11 months, to replace her.

That said, the New-York based designer is not yet ready to say goodbye to the brand she built. "I am not retiring! I am moving forward," she shares in an interview with The New York Times. Reportedly, she created a new role for herself at her eponymous label as the global brand ambassador. She may no longer be designing clothes for new collections, but will continue to work closely with the fashion house and show her support by attending store openings and events.

"I am thrilled with the evolution of the company over the past 37 years…There is still so much opportunity and I look forward to continuing to represent this house and our projects all around the world. I am so pleased Wes is now part of the Herrera house—he’s the right one for this position to further build on our great momentum," the Venezuelan-born designer says in a statement.

So what should we expect from the Carolina Herrera brand? Consistency, she promises. There won't be a topsy-turvy transition in this pivotal point of the brand's history. As always, elegance and sophistication will be the pillars of the Herrera House.

Wes Gordon will mark his takeover through the brand's Resort 2019 collection.
