Carl Jan Cruz, also known as CJ by his friends, has been in and out of the industry in the past eight years—he has served as a styling assistant to Melvin Mojica, a menswear designer for Melissa Dizon-Ramsey’s Eairth, and also an intern with Céline under Phoebe Philo, all while he’s studying in The London College of Fashion.
As he was creating his final year collection, CJ qualifies in the prestigious LVMH (Louis Vuitton-Moët Hennessy) Young Fashion Designer Prize—a program created to support young designers and fashion students in honing their skills not just in design but in other important aspects of the fashion industry such as sourcing, marketing, and advertising. For this year, the jury comprises of fashion greats, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Humberto Leon, Carol Lim, Phoebe Philo, Raf Simons, and Riccardo Tisci. The young designer who wins the hearts and minds of the jury will receive a grant of 300,000 euros. The graduates will recieve 10,000 euros and an opportunity to work work as a part of the design team of a LVMH house brand.
