Call For Art American cult brand, Volcom, rides the art-driven fashion.

In the molten-hot world of extreme sports, the influence of surf and skate in fashion has been remarkable. The good news is, you don't have to get into board sports to pull off the look. You can just look the part. Perhaps the tide has turned on the once anti-fashion, wave-riders and skaters who now represent a new generation of style innovators.

American brand Volcom has brought in the beach surfing trends to the city courtesy of its distributor here, Aloha Boardsports Inc. With its infused individualistic bent mixed with mainstream fashion, the brand has successfully merged street wear with board sports apparel.

Being so immersed in this subculture, Volcom channels its ideals by providing a platform for aspiring artists to express themselves. Hence, the Featured Artist Series line of products was launched last year, wherein chosen artwork submitted by various artists are printed onto limited edition tees and other merchandise.

The I LOVE YOU store's Sharon Atillo was the very first Filipina artist to have a design showcased in this series. Her sketched entry is entitled, "Self Portrait with the exploding robotic rhum in cake." In the brand's efforts to support youth creative thinking, Volcom hopes to collaborate with more of our local artists.

Aloha Boardsports is paving the way for other Filipinos to stage their artistic flair and individuality through Volcom Call Out for Art, a t-shirt design contest. The challenge is to come up with an original design that adheres to the theme, “Why do you keep hurting your neighbor? What's wrong with you?” The best among the designs will be handpicked by Volcom, featured in their website artist gallery, and produced as a limited edition release under the brand.
