Not sure which one is right for you? We’ll help you say yes to the perfect dress!

It’s a choice every bride should make eventually: What dress should I wear? Many brides-to-be invest a considerable amount of time in finding the perfect bridal dress for when they walk down the aisle, to the point that some consider this the most important aspect of their wedding preparations. Hence, many end up splurging on intricate details and big designer names. Still, we understand: After all, it is the dress a bride shows up in for her big day!

Before you get lost in the specifics and embark on a Pinterest spree, it’s important to answer some basic questions—like, where will it be held? The wedding theme and setting are indispensable factors in helping you decide which dress to go for. Is it an indoor or an outdoor affair? Are you going for traditional or modern? Will it be hot or cold? Will your guests' clothes get wet?

If you have at least decided on a wedding venue and you’re aware of the terrain and surroundings, that’s a start. Here, we listed down some wedding dress styles that are appropriate according to the venue. Check them out below!

Civil Wedding

Who says you can’t be a stylish bride at a courthouse ceremony? If you’re exchanging your "I dos" at city hall, mark the occasion with an elegant and stunning bridal number. Even though you’re not walking down an aisle with a train behind you, you still deserve a bridal moment. A civil wedding allows for a variety of styles to make you shine—be it a dainty, feminine and elegant dress; or a sharp, tailored and modern ensemble that’s perfect for a city bride.

Meanwhile, for a dress that’s just as elegant but more low-key, consider this silky asymmetrical puffy sleeve with a wraparound skirt that’s knee-length. You’ll definitely be a bride in style! (FYI, it's the exact dress Megan Young wore to her wedding, too!)

Beach Wedding

No heavy layers and puffy petticoats here! The charm of a beach ceremony lies in the sea breeze, so opt for light and airy fabrics that will have your hems flying in the wind— think of chiffon or tulle for that feminine touch, or even linen if you want to keep things casual yet still sophisticated. Seaside weddings also favor hubadera brides—the less fabric to restrict your movement, the better. Consider off-shoulder cuts, thigh-high slits, or even backless silhouettes. Also, ditch the stilettos: You can walk barefoot in the sand or at least wear comfy sandals.

This dreamy dress with a floral lace bodice and a deep V-shaped neckline is perfect for an elegant number on the beach.

Church Ceremony

Whether by choice or by requirement (some faiths like the Catholic Church require weddings to be held at a church), there is something so solemn and grand about being joined in holy matrimony at a church. The good news is that this country has no shortage of beautiful churches, many of them boasting of impressive architecture and rich history. A time-honored tradition calls for a stunning, knockout dress that pulls all the stops. Channel your inner royalty and don’t skimp on details such as bows, beadwork, and even that train!

Transform into a modern-day princess with this sleek and elegant gown that fits at the bodice and flares at the bottom. The sleek fabric with body-hugging lines is accentuated by studded off-shoulder sleeves in pearls and beadwork for a memorable wedding ensemble.

Garden Wedding

A delicate, botanical affair surrounded by lush greenery calls for a sweet and romantic number with a touch of whimsy. You’ll want a dress that keeps you nicely swathed in the outdoors, after all—nothing too heavy that will keep you sweating under the sun. You can also go for more tailored options made with breathable fabrics! Wedges or block heels may make for a better choice of footwear at a garden wedding, as stilettos tend to sink in the soil.

Turn heads in this dreamy yet lightweight tulle dress adorned with appliqués, including a neckline that shows off your décolletage!

Destination Wedding

Whether you’re getting married in a European castle, on a Polynesian beach, or simply in another foreign city, it’s best to be smart about what you’re packing on a flight. When a wedding affair takes place abroad, you’re likely to extend well until your honeymoon, so expect lugging several bags in tow at the airport. This wedding venue calls for a balance between practicality and style: Choose a dress that’s beautiful and elegant yet lightweight so it won’t wrestle against your luggage zipper. A classic, minimalist style is ideal—even when your luggage is being hauled and thrown around, you won’t have to deal with ripped seams and broken beadwork when you arrive at your destination.

One of the dreamiest locations you can get married in is deep within the woods, surrounded by tall and age-old trees, or up high on a mountain! This woodsy setting carries the most appeal for folksy, bohemian brides set on a rustic wedding with quirky, heartfelt elements. Add personal touches to your wedding by injecting bits of your style in details such as in the invitations, the styling, and of course, your dress!
