Blog: Trust Me, It's Paradise
What do you like the most about this trend?
I'm a big fan of basics, so my closet is full of black and white pieces. When I have a hard time deciding what to wear, I always turn to this classic combo, whether I feel like dressing up or dressing down.
How do you build your outfit around it?
I usually start with the shoes I feel like wearing, and then decide on the rest of the outfit. If I have a new key piece that I'm dying to wear, like a leather skirt, the hardest part of the process is picking a top that works with it. But on some days, I literally just pick the first black and white piece I see in my closet, and I'm done in three minutes. It's a fool-proof combo, in my book.
How do you balance your outfit to avoid making it look over-the-top?
In the tropics, we can't layer too much anyhow, so I just stick to the garments and accessorize with pieces that complement the outfit, unless I feel like going completely overboard, in which case I will pile on the rings, bracelets or necklaces, but never all of them at the same time.
Can you give tips on how to pull off this trend?
Be confident, and have some fun with it. You can hide your problem areas with the black, and flaunt your good side with white or print. Oh, and choose the right pair of shoes.
