By the looks of it, style cues from the aughts will continue to infiltrate our closets as the 2020s go by. The latest Y2K piece to make a comeback are knee-high Converse Chuck Taylors, which are popularly regarded as a staple of punk rock style. Making a case for the kitschy pair of sneakers is BINI Maloi, who recently wore them to attend Vice Ganda and Regine Velasquez's weekend concert. As expected from the P-pop it girl, she styled the throwback kicks with a fresh twist.

True to her girlish aesthetic, Maloi offset the sky-high kicks with a polka-dotted mini dress and her fiery curtain bangs and layers. Converse first introduced the extra-tall iteration of the Chuck Taylor in the mid-2000s, and they quickly became a cult favorite for their quirky design. Punk rock fans and concert-goers would opt for them as a more comfortable alternative to their usual leather boots. Named the Chuck Taylor All Star XXHi, the model had a reintroduction in 2024 thanks to fans who clamored for a re-edition of it.

As anyone can imagine, these take some effort to tie up, given how the laces wrap fully around the calves. Though they're worth the work, especially if you love sprinkling some Y2K quirk to your looks. In Maloi's case, they were an ideal option for a night of singing and dancing along. You can shop her exact pair for over P5,000. We also found the flirty frock she wore, which also proves that the bubble skirt hype is far from over.
