From his Christian Siriano number at the Oscars to his Francis Libiran ensemble at the Pose premiere, actor Billy Porter completed his suit-gown hybrid trifecta at the 2019 Tony Awards just a few days ago. Stunning as he was on the red carpet, what made his look even more fabulous was the fact that his outfit was crafted from the curtains used in his Broadway musical Kinky Boots.
Billy wore a white long-sleeved button-down beneath his custom red curtain suit-gown with pink tulle falling from underneath to accentuate his train. To complete his look, he finished off his bedazzling ‘fit with a pair of hand-painted floral heels custom-made by Oral Brodt.
Encrusted with Swarovski crystals, the iconic cherry red number was a collaboration between Celestino Couture, stylist Sam Ratelle, and Scenery, a notable brand that creates “handmade accessories out of retired theatrical materials.” According to Scenery’s Instagram, a portion of their proceeds are continuously donated to to the Theather Development Fund in New York. Looks like Billy isn’t just advocating for gender-fluid and sustainable fashion, but for young and hopeful theather kids as well. Talk about a real icon!
