After a rigorous bootcamp to develop their collections, nine finalists showed their best pieces at the recently concluded Bench Fashion Week. Jace Quiambao, Antonina Amoncio, and Bon Hansen Reyes were hailed as the top three among this year's pool of designers, and they will soon be showing their winning collections with Bench at this year's Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo in Japan. See their prized collections below!
Jace Quiambao
Jace depicts his fascination for Vladimir Nabokov's butterfly illustrations through this bright streetwear collection. His pieces boast of suede earth tones accented with vivid yellow, pink, and orange hues that draw sartorial inspiration from the field uniforms of lepidoterists (an entomologist that specializes in studying butterflies) and the butterfly itself.
Antonina Amoncio
Antonina took inspiration from Filipino children's books. She translated her eight-year-old sister's illustrations into hand-embroidered fabrics that show the Filipino culture. The doodles highlight Filipino values like love for country and importance of family.
Bon Hansen Reyes
Bon took us back to pre-colonial Spanish era, showing how Filipinos back then were normally dressed. Contrasted by the Spanish influence, he created non-gender pieces, mixing tailored and deconstructed menswear suits and delicate hand-embroidered accents.
