After gaining some experience in furniture retailing, Mariel San Agustin established Domesticity, a lifestyle brand dedicated to producing top notch Philippine-made handicrafts for export. Inspired by the talent she witnessed through trade shows and sourcing for local materials, she set up shop in a small community located in Negros Occidental. Seeking the help of the Cottage Industry Technology Center of the Philippines, instructors were sent to help train the community and to teach them the skills needed to produce handicrafts.
This socially-aware brand isn’t just proud of its top notch products, but also in its ability to support the community it was built in. A portion of their sales go to building houses for the employees’ families and for the various needs of the community. Domesticity continues to serve as the venue for providing employment and, in turn, a sense of pride for the families it supports.
