In a recent Instagram post, the Cebuana stunned us all in a show-stopping beaded gown, which featured a bandeau-esque bustier and a maxi skirt with a slit that perfectly sculpted her svelte figure. Photographed against a seaside backdrop, the intricate embellishment made Steffi look absolutely iridescent.
The beauty queen had 21-year-old Brian Cinco to thank for her stunning frock. In her caption, she shares how the Ilonggo reached out and told her it was his “biggest dream” to dress her. “I have always been an advocate of promoting local talent. I started joining pageants at the age of 8 and I have witnessed the impeccable talent, creativity, and hard work designers put into their craft,” Steffi shares. She narrates that after Brian proposed the idea through Instagram, her stylist, Josei Cuizon, helped make the collaboration a reality.
Preview got in touch with Brian and he shared that the gown he crafted for Steffi took him five days to make, working off a concept he already had in mind. Even with the relatively simple design, he was confident the beauty queen could pull it off, saying “for sure she will give justice sa design ko na ‘to… The finished piece was enough for me to [be] satisfied… When Josei sent me a sneak peek of Steffi wearing my gown I was [in] awe like I was joyful!”
Steffi continues, saying that Brian is a “promising and talented young designer whose designs are very intricate and well-crafted.” As it turns out, he actually had two dresses made for Steffi, with this silver beaded number being one of them. “It is my honor to wear dresses… from someone I know… [will] carve an amazing legacy in Philippine fashion,” Steffi shares.
Brian had nothing but good graces for the 27-year-old wearing one of his designs. In a dedication post on his Instagram account, he tells Steffi, “You are indeed a phenomenal woman who [has made] an impact [on others] like me. You inspire me. [You have opened] a lot of [opportunities] for me. I will forever be thankful [to] you and [your] team...”
Being a fan of Steffi’s since her Binibining Cebu days, having the mestiza wear one of his creations was nothing short of a dream come true. When asked about what he loves so much about the Cebuana, Brian gushes and states that, “Her unique catwalk, her beauty and personality, I love everything about her. She's perfect for a beauty queen. I will always be thankful to [them] that as an amateur fashion designer far away from them, they have given me a once in a blue moon opportunity that I [never could have imagined would] happen in my life right now."
By the looks of it, Steffi is right to claim Brian is on his way to being a big name in the industry. A staple designer for beauty queens in his home state of Iloilo, each frock of his is as exquisitely made as the next. A signature element of his creations seems to be the generous use of jewels and beads that accentuate the figures of his muses, making them literally and figuratively shine. Brian expounds on this, stating that he “really [likes] glittery and shiny embellishments. Most of the gowns I make are detailed with rhinestones, gems or crystals.” Ms. Iloilo 2021 Kheshaphornam Ramachandran also got the opportunity to look like a sparkling silver showgirl in one of his designs.
With this gesture, Steffi acknowledges the fact that beauty queens like her can utilize their platforms to uplift other Filipinos that have helped them get to where they are now. “As long as I continue to grow my reach and have this platform to impact and inspire people, I will continue to share this space to help showcase and promote amazing Filipino talents,” she says, closing out her caption.
