Chinese luxury brand Shanghai Tang is working with yet another Filipino designer. First appointing veteran designer Cesar Gaupo as their Creative Director from 2002 to 2005, the lifestyle label recently tapped accessory designer Bea Valdes for their A/W 2011 collection.
Bea created a statement neckpiece for the luxury brand inspired by Shanghai Tang's trademark fusion of modern luxury and Chinese culture and craftsmanship. The neckpiece features Bea's interpretation of traditional Chinese motifs, such as Chinese knots, which are embroidered with metal chains, and the dragon symbol, carved into the necklace's mother-of-pearl medallion. Labradorites and Swarovski crystals accompany the medallion, together with a cascade of metal chains.
"The single piece designed was meant to capture the heritage of Shanghai Tang," Bea says. "The necklace is touched by nostalgia, but ultimately, its spirit is about their contemporary Asian luxury."
The necklace is available in all Shanghai Tang boutiques in Hong Kong and Beijing starting in September, and it retails at HK$16,800, or roughly P90,000.
