We're all agog at the latest production of Ballet Philippines, our country's internationally acclaimed professional dance company. No, we're not going crazy because we've been inspired by a recently staged ballet performance. We're all going crazy because of the personalities that Ballet Philippines has collaborated with to produce its latest fundraising venture, Ballet Barbie!

Now, before you get excited at the thought of the world's favorite doll coming to life and pirouetting and grand jeté-ing all over the stage, let us tell you more about the project.

Ballet Philippines is now on its 40th year, and to celebrate this milestone they've decided to work with 40 Filipino designers to dress up the beloved plastic bombshell/fashion icon/childhood friend in gorgeous couture! The collaboration resulted in Ballet Barbie, a fundraising project that will benefit Ballet Philippines' dedicated dance scholars.

Each couture-clad Barbie doll will be auctioned off on March 17, 2010 in the Rigodon Ballroom of the Peninsula Manila Hotel. There will be a silent auction as well as a live one hosted by the always entertaining Tessa Prieto-Valdez and John Silva. Naturally, a dance presentation will regale the guests once every beautifully dressed and styled doll is exhibited and auctioned.

Margie Moran-Floirendo, Ballet Philippines' president, tells us that the idea for the project was first discussed with the designers in an elaborate 7-course dinner hosted by her and Mr. and Mrs. Liechenstein called "Ballet, Barbie, and Bulli." Our country's premier fashion stalwarts were each given five dolls to work with by Richwell Trading Corporation, the Philippines' sole distributor of Mattel™ toys. They were then given free reign in conceptualizing their Ballet Barbie collections, resulting in a diverse, exciting, and unique lineup of couture-clad and fascinatingly styled collector's item Barbie dolls!

For those who want to support Ballet Philippines and seriously covet these one of a kind creations, a special preview of the Ballet Barbie exhibit will occur on March 15, 2010, from 10 AM to 5 PM, at the Arts in the City Building in Fort Bonifacio, Global City.

Philanthropy has never been this fun and fashionable! Who knew miniature couture could be so charitable?
