In the past few years, Balenciaga has grown a penchant for releases that scream “avant garde” or even downright bizarre. After its much-buzzed literal trash bag, the luxury fashion house has another thing up their sleeve or, more particularly, their waist: the Towel Skirt, which is exactly what it sounds like.

After first making its rounds during Balenciaga’s Spring 2024 collection, the Paris-based label has officially released the Towel Skirt, a follow-up to Fall/Winter 2022's towel-inspired top.
Much like an actual towel, the Balenciaga piece is crafted from 100-percent terry cotton cloth. However, unlike real towels, the unisex skirt won’t come loose during inopportune times, as it comes snug in the mid-waist area with two buttons and an adjustable belt inside. For an added Balenciaga touch, the knee-length skirt is also adorned with the brand’s embroidered logo at its front.
As expected, the Towel Skirt doesn’t exactly come with an off-the-bathroom-rack price tag. One piece fetches a retail price of $925 or approximately P51,500. Netizens, as usual, were left bewildered by the peculiar item.

Thanks to Balenciaga’s track record of odd-ball releases, one user questioned the brand’s judgment and pool of ideas.
