Asia Fashion Exchange 2013

Asia Fashion Exchange 2013 Singapore is currently Asia’s leading fashion hub and here’s why.

Singapore Fashion Week has been running as an annual event since 2001 but it was in 2010 when organizers cultivated it as a more integrated lifestyle concept, officially calling it Asia Fashion Exchange. Since then, both public and private sectors have been working together to stage not just fashion shows, but also a more comprehensive networking platform for Asia’s fashion industry.

This year, Asia Fashion Exchange asserts its vision of taking Asian fashion onto the world stage through four key events: Audi Fashion Festival, BLUEPRINT Tradeshow and Emporium, Audi Star Creation, and Asia Fashion Summit. The success of the whole event is built on these four pillars working together to cover the broad spectrum of the fashion industry.

Audi Fashion Festival featured a stellar line-up of both emerging talents as well as internationally acclaimed designers; no other than legendary red carpet designer Carolina Herrera opened the show. Home-grown labels like RAOUL and even Ashley Isham, who have already made a name for themselves globally, showcased their A/W 2013 collections. We were also thrilled to get a sneak peek into British designer Peter Pilotto’s captivating pieces, as well as Tsumori Chisato’s marine-inspired collection. Twice-named British Designer of the Year Hussein Chalayan closed the Festival with his signature conceptual designs.

Meanwhile, BLUEPRINT Tradeshow and Emporium served as a venue for more than 160 international and Asian emerging brands to exhibit their unique products and attract buyers from all over. Asia Fashion Summit on the other hand held seminars to tackle the business of fashion by examining trends, address sector challenges, and discuss the best practices.

Another highlight of the week-long event is the Audi Star Creation—a fashion design competition for aspiring fashion designers from around Asia. From a record number of entries, 12 finalists made the first cut. In the end, only three took home S$10,000 each, a one-year internship with fashion retailer F J Benjamin, and a chance to showcase a capsule collection at next year’s Audi Fashion Festival. It would be great to see a Filipino!
