Have you ever been locked up inside a pitch black room? Have you tried eating in the dark? Or how did you feel when while you were emerged in something, the lights suddenly went off? It’s debilitating, right? Now, can you imagine how the visually impaired goes through his/her day to day life? This is what TOMS tried to let us experience for ourselves.
At the recent launch of TOMS Eyewear, the shoe brand turned “giving company” took guests on a journey of taste, sound, smell, and touch minus sight. In a uniquely crafted gallery, we were asked to wander through art installations and sample dishes devoid of any light. It was TOMS way of having the guests experience what it’s like to be visually impaired in order to increase awareness of the importance of helping restore sight.
The Eyewear line is the newest One for One product that is looking to address a fundamental need in the world—sight. Through the One for One model, TOMS offers help in three ways: prescription glasses, sight-saving surgery, and medical treatment. With every pair of eyewear purchase, TOMS will help give sight to a person in need. Yes, just like how they’re doing it with their shoes. One for One. Watch the video below to know more.
Doesn’t that tug at one’s heart strings? So, if you’re looking (pun intended) to get a new pair of sunnies for your upcoming blue-sky holidays, opt to get one that’s mutually beneficial. “One thing that I realized over the past couple of years is this One for One model is really powerful. It allows someone to buy something that they’re already gonna buy or they want or they need, and help someone at the same time,” shares Blake Mycoskie, TOMS Founder and Chief Shoe Giver. Perhaps it's an opportunity to wear something that doesn't only make you look good but also make you feel good knowing that it has a much greater purpose. Not to worry, TOMS has a wide selection for every taste and personality—we did get quite crazy trying them on.
Remember, just like shoes, you can never have enough pairs of sunglasses.
