"I would describe the summer collection as 'tailored tribal chic,'" Amina Aranaz-Alunan says of the latest bag collection of Aranáz. Made up of totes, clutches, and slings in woven and hand-embroidered straw, Ifugao fabric, and Ikat straws and patterns in luscious summer colors—bright blues, oranges, yellows, greens and reds, and the requisite tan and ecru ("I used a lot of bright color-blocking grounded by neutral hues," says Amina)—the collection evokes the fun and lightness of summer.
It's perfect for "sun worshippers who value chic seaside style and chic city dwellers who want to feel the summer vibe even when they are amidst a work week," according to Amina. "It celebrates summer with unique beach-worthy pieces!" And indeed, each piece beckons to be brought out into the sunlight; I particularly would like to have the Amorita Full, pack it with my beach essentials, and tote it to the shoreline! Amina, meanwhile, is partial to the Starfish snakeskin origami clutch—"its color-blocking technique will instantly punch up your outfit"—and the Amorita basket and the Camsur sling.
As a treat for their special clients, Aranáz is holding a private trunk show tomorrow, March 26, 2011. These lucky guests will get first dibs on the collection, which will be available in Aranáz boutiques starting Sunday, March 27, 2011.
