Ask any girl the films that solidified her interest in fashion, and we’re certain that The Devil Wears Prada makes it as one of their top answers. We're not here to argue; we all wanted to be Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, at one point! She transformed from a fashion rookie who couldn’t tell the difference between two belts to strutting down the streets of New York in gorgeous designer pieces. It was more than relatable to burgeoning fashionistas.
In celebration of its 16th anniversary, Anne penned a heartfelt post on her Instagram and how its legacy has still lived on since it first came out. “Happy Anniversary to #TheDevilWearsPrada, with special love to the amazing [Patricia Field]! She put us in the most incredible, iconic, and joyful costumes which somehow keep serving 16 years later. That’s magic.”
Anne Hathaway Reveals Her Favorite Look She Wore From the Devil Wears Prada
She went on to share her favorites outfits from Andy’s slew of chic ensembles, curated by Patricia Field. In a recent exchange she did with Interview Magazine, the 39-year-old reveals, “I love what I wore to the James Hoult party, that velvet Chanel coat that went to the knees, and then the miniskirt and the stockings and the slouched boots. I think it was a sample because I kept finding straight pins in it,” she explained.
We have to agree with Anne on this one! Pairing a neutral coat with other versatile pieces such as a skirt and boots is guaranteed to create a timeless outfit no matter the era.
Mirroring her character, Anne wasn't without her fair share of fashion blunders during her youth. In the same interview, Anne answered a question by designer Marc Jacobs on what outfit she wished she could erase herself from wearing. “There was this one time where I was very young and dressed myself for an event, and I stepped onto a red carpet and did not know my dress was see-through, and I wasn’t wearing a bra. It was a very long carpet, and at no point did any of the people in that wall of photographers stop to give me a heads-up or offer me a jacket. I’m not naive. I don’t expect that, but it’s something I would do for another person if I saw it. And so I would erase that, just because it sucked.”
But despite the setbacks she’s experienced, the Bvlgari ambassador has been able to sustain her stylish status from her teen years well into her late 30s—and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. Whether she’s playing a character on screen, or just being herself, we’re looking forward to seeing more fashion moments from the A-list actress.
