And the bags she thinks are worth the investment!

Anyone who follows beauty vlogger Anna Cay would know she's been an avid collector of designer items for years. She collects signature bags, shoes, and even T-shirts, so if you're planning to do the same, she's definitely someone who would know exactly how to do it right. In fact, she dedicated an entire video about it on her YouTube channel!

Here are Anna Cay's best tips for starting a designer bag collection:

1. Choose neutral-colored bags for your first few purchases.

Though everyone's color preferences are different, Anna thinks that you can't go wrong with bags in black, beige, or white for your first couple of purchases. She reasons that these are simply easier to pair with your outfits so you can get that ROI, stat. And if you ever love a bag enough to want it in a brighter color, you're less likely to end up regretting it! For example, the beauty vlogger bought the Chanel Classic Flap in black and beige first before splurging on the more delicate and hard-to-find white colorway.

2. Go for structured bags.

For anyone like Anna who wants to make the most out of her bags, structured types are the best choices if you're just starting out. That's because structured bags hold their shape well, no matter if you're using them every day or leaving them in storage for a long time. This also means that your bag will always look brand new, which is why most of Anna's favorite bags fall under this category.

3. Start with the classics.

"It's very tempting to go with the trend you want...but make sure that 'yung mga mahal na bags mo sa iyong collection are the classics," says Anna. The Chanel Classic Flap, Hermès Birkin, and Louis Vuitton Petite Malle are only a few examples of timeless designs that she has in her collection, and the best thing about these bags, she says, is that they will increase in value overtime.

4. Observe the price hikes.

Like any investment piece, the value of bags changes overtime—some more drastically than others. From Anna's experience, the two brands that increase in price the quickest are Chanel and Hermès, so if you want to purchase bags from these luxury houses, it's better to do so before they become more expensive.

5. The best purchases are not the ones you buy on impulse.

Even Anna has had her fair share of bags she regrets buying. One of the things these have in common, she shares, is that they were impulse buys. Meanwhile, the bags that she actually ends up keeping the longest are ones that literally keep her awake at night researching and watching reviews of—in short, the bags that she has actually thought twice (or thrice) about before spending her hard-earned money on.
