Alexander McQueen could be on the new £20 note!
The Bank of England has called upon the public to choose the artist that will be the face of the new £20 note and they have two months to choose between a sculptor, a painter, a designer, a director, or any significant figure in the world of visual arts. So far, the list of candidates includes pictorial satirist William Hogarth, filmmaker Richard Attenborough, and fashion’s own rebel Alexander McQueen.
According to The Guardian, Governor Mark Carney said, “These sparse pieces of paper from the 17th century have developed over the years to become the small works of art that are in everyone’s wallets.” As a matter of fact, his retrospective Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty is still the lead exhibition at the The Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Vogue.uk says that the designer has an eight-to-one chance of getting the bid. The Bank will announce their final decision in spring 2016 and the new note will go into circulation by 2020.
Fingers crossed!
